Nature will provide for us if we vow to take care of it.
But our relationship, while mutually beneficial, should not be transactional.
It goes beyond margins.
We are nature, one of its infinite expressions.
Harming it is like going against the very same thing we are made of.
What are we made of and why are we self-harming so much?
So much?
Everywhere.

It is a sociological question,
to a systemic problem,
but the answer goes more, I believe, to a deep psychological issue.

Why are we, as a species — with all our great technology, knowledge and innovation —harming ourselves so much?
It is like we were hoping for extinction, because we will not survive by going against ourselves.
Over and over.

Call it poverty,
or huge inequality.
Technological unleash of whatever may harm us before we learn enough about how to control it,
how to regulate it.
Resource depletion.
Flooding waste.
Deforestation.
Carbon emissions.
Food security.
Planetary boundaries.
Survival.

Ultimately, it is a matter of justice
Social justice,
human justice,
Earth’s justice.

I made a pledge to nature, the holiest spirit.
To love, care and protect nature for the rest of my life and will devote any skill that I may have to advocate for this cause.
This photo gallery captures Seattle’s Volunteer Park Conservatory and its meaningful effort to preserve nature. My appreciation to Friends of the Conservatory for allowing my to take this pictures.
